More than 1,500 people in the community participated in St. Louis Park’s Vision 3.0 community engagement process during 2016 – 2017. Another 4,600 people provided comments and ideas for St. Louis Park’s future.

Community involvement activities included 38 community conversations about the future of St. Louis Park conducted by 65 specially trained resident facilitators, two in-person town hall meetings, two Facebook Live town hall meetings, a survey, questions of the week on social media, and “One Wish for St. Louis Park” chalkboards at 20 locations and events throughout the community.

The Vision 3.0 report provided recommendations to focus on, and the process informed the city council’s strategic priorities and the development of the 2040 Comprehensive Plan.

During 2005 – 2006, Vision St. Louis Park was a communitywide process aimed at creating a community where people would make a conscious choice to make St. Louis Park their lifelong home. It was created by the community and included representatives from neighborhoods, businesses, community organizations, government, schools and religious institutions.

The city council used the outcomes of this Vision process to develop the Vision Strategic Directions 18-Month Guide and adopted four strategic directions to guide actions and carry out the Vision recommendations.

The city adopted the following strategic directions:

• St. Louis Park is committed to being a connected and engaged community.
• St. Louis Park is committed to being a leader in environmental stewardship. We will increase environmental consciousness and responsibility in all areas of city business.
• St. Louis Park is committed to providing well-maintained and diverse housing options.
• St. Louis Park is committed to promoting and integrating arts, culture and community aesthetics in all city initiatives, including implementation where appropriate.

The first community vision process began in 1995 with a 37-member steering committee composed of individuals representing residents, government, schools, businesses, community organizations and religious institutions. Information collected from resident surveys and focus group interviews became the basis for communitywide vision and goals. View the 1995 – 1996 Vision report.
