Jim Engelking began serving as ward 2 council member in 2026, following his election in 2025. Engelking is active in the community, including serving several years as Brookside Neighborhood Association president, volunteering at and serving as a board member for the St. Louis Park Emergency Program (STEP), and working as an election judge.

Engelking grew up on Saint Paul's East Side and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in economics. Before retiring in 2019, he worked in the aerospace industry and in IT consulting management.

Post-retirement, Engelking completed the culinary arts program at Saint Paul College. He helped Minneapolis nonprofit Good Grocer obtain its restaurant license and developed the store's prepared food offerings. In addition to creating tasty food, Engelking is teaching culinary skills to neurodiverse post-secondary students.

Engelking has been an active sports official for more than 30 years, officiating youth and high school soccer and girls’ lacrosse. As an official, he served for 12 years on the committee that administers the U.S. Soccer Federation Referee Program in Minnesota. He also co-founded and serves on the leadership team of the Twin Cities Soccer Referee Organization, an association of high school soccer officials. Engelking was a year-round bike commuter to downtown Minneapolis after moving to St. Louis Park; now as an adaptive bike pilot he helps facilitate biking experiences for individuals with disabilities.

Engelking has lived in the Brookside Neighborhood with his wife Betsy since 2015. They have three adult children, two of whom live in the Twin Cities.
