Traffic impacts

  • Cedar Lake Road (Rhode Island Avenue to Kentucky Avenue) and Louisiana Avenue (Fire Station to Railroad Bridge) - CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC
    • Through traffic should use the posted detour
    • There will still be street and pedestrian access to all the businesses in this area during road construction.

Local and Business Access Map

    • Louisiana Avenue (south of Cedar Lake Road) is closed to traffic.
    • Access to businesses and Nevada Avenue to be maintained from Louisiana Avenue (north) and Cedar Lake Road (east). 
      • Please be cautious when traveling on Cedar Lake Road (west) as this segment is still under construction and workers and construction vehicles are present. There may be temporary delays when traveling through the area. 
    • This is a great opportunity for the community to show support! By shopping local, dining out and visiting as usual, you help businesses stay strong during the construction period. Your support not only helps maintain momentum, but also ensures these businesses continue to thrive long after the project is complete.

    Construction project updates

    •  Cedar Lake Road (Rhode Island Avenue to east of Nevada Avenue)
      • Week of Aug. 24
        • The contractor is working on planting new trees and preparing the area for sod installation.
        • Another contractor is working on the wiring for the street light poles.
      • Week of Aug. 31
        • Installation of sod has been pushed back to this week.
      • The final layer of bituminous street pavement is scheduled to be completed in mid-September.
    • Intersection of Cedar Lake Road and Louisiana Avenue
      • Week of Aug. 24
        • All underground utility work is expected to be completed this week.
        • The contractor continues to excavate and grade the gravel base in areas where utility work has been completed.
        • Retaining wall installation on Louisiana Avenue, south of Cedar Lake Road, is ongoing. The wall work is expected to be completed next week.
        • The contractor has begun removals and grading in portions of the parking lots.
      •  Week of Aug. 31
        • Installation of concrete curb is expected to begin this week.
      • Week of Sept. 7
        •  Installation of curb, sidewalks, and driveways will continue this week.
    • Intersection of Louisiana Avenue and Franklin Avenue
      •  Week of Aug. 31
        •   To address a warranty item with the newly constructed sanitary sewer at Louisiana Avenue and Franklin Avenue, the contractor will excavate and make repairs in the intersection and along Franklin Avenue to the west.
        • There will be times when Louisiana Avenue is reduced to one lane, and flaggers will be present to direct traffic.

    Reminder: Private improvements in the right of way

    The contractor will be working in the public right of way. If you have private improvements such as underground sprinklers, electric wiring, perennial gardens, or invisible fences within 15 feet of curb, it is likely that they are in the public right of way. Removal and reinstallation of these items are the responsibility of the property owner. Plan on removing these items from the public right of way as soon as possible. Private improvements that are not removed may be damaged during construction. Property owners are responsible for repair or replacement of damaged items. If you have questions, contact the project coordinator.

    Private utility work

    Private utility companies will be relocating their services throughout the project area.

    MnDOT project updates and closures

    • MnDOT has closed Wayzata Boulevard between Hampshire Avenue and Colorado Avenue.

      • The road will remain open for business and resident access. 

      • Visit MnDOT's project website for more information. 

    • MnDOT closed the ramp from Highway 169 southbound to Cedar Lake Road/Jordan Avenue.
